True, neons are hard (and sometimes not worth) the build cost. Yes it is more cost-effective to work on a different car. You get more gains out of pretty much any engine for the same money.
However, giving up and starting somewhere else truely says something about a man

Anywho, they are right manny. Start from the bottom.
The list is simple (this is JUST MY ADVICE, you don't have to follow it).
- Intake System (CAI, Throttle Body, Intake Manifold)
- Exhaust System (Header, maybe a muffler [The stock piping is great, replacing it really is not necassary and won't net you much until you reach a certain point]). I could take all night and day about exhaust systems.
- (if you are looking for performance over accesseries...) AN UDP
- Maybe some minor suspension (like new brakes and rotors)
- Camshaft (different grinds for different people) and cam gear (to adjust)
- Turbo <--------- thats where that SHOULD be. After working over an engine to support it and work well without one. Throwing one on there after this will work SO much better. You will have then upgraded the intake system to fully support it, free'd up power from the accesseries with the UDP, Gotten a great cam for your set-up, and you'll be able to handle the new power with better brakes (and if you buy suspension, suspension).
Throwing on a turbo at the beginning is one way to do it, but you should really get to know the car and how it responds before going *****-out with modifications. I know graphite did it, but he kinda stopped modding after the turbo.
well i did the same thing, had a built head and no bottom end to back it up... i am going to try to use my stock tranny this year... i am sure i will go threw it after next years end.... but anyway, i am getting the bottom end built this year, hoping to have it at my 350-400whp range.....
saying that, u can puta turbo on a stock block, but just remember. it will have to be built and or replaced at some point in time, i have been running my turbo for two years now, and i have had some very small problems, mostly oil leaks, but the one year i was only running 5 psi, this last year was 8 psi, and moved very well, but after jumpin the boost alittle bit, u will want more, and want it to pull harder... but u can get 10 psi out of a stock block, but not for to long..... just remember boost will were ur internals down faster and will cost money in the long run...... i am looking at spending about 2k-3k on a built bottom end, but i am also wanting to run 15-20psi when i am done........ i am going big, and honestly prolly bigger than i should.... but that is what I am looking for, my parents new zo6 beater... i just want to say i just beat u in a 7500 dollar neon..... LOL.....
