I have a 2004 Neon sxt, and I need to get a tune up for it, but I don't really want to spend a billion dollars on it plus labor or whatever if my husband can do it himself... Can someone out there let me know exactly what a tune up consists of? That way i can just get everything we need and my husband can do it.

plugs, and wires, usually an air filter to.... all that u can do urself... very easy to do

 

Spark plugs, spark plug wires, the belts (2), radiator hoses (optional)

 

The dealer where I got my car they gave me free oil changes for life. So I was going there and they tell me I need to give them 400 bucks for a tune up. Once they told me that they were going to change air filter, plugs & wires, etc. I just kinda chuckled and said no thanks. Thats crazy! I actually changed all of that stuff when I got the car and it all cost me like 100 bucks. And the wires are magnecor wires...and the filter was from the AEM intake. Plugs were the stock champions.

Get a new PCV too.

 

Depends on who you ask. Really today filter are checked so often that if it gets dirty you change it whether or not you do a "TUNE UP" take stock of what you need and how many miles you got on the ride.

Stock
30K look into Plugs, Air Filter, Make-Up air filter, PCV Valve, Belts
60K add Wires to the mix
90K probably add the timing belt and idler pulleys/tensioner and water pump and coolant exchange

Now for fuel system stuff I would have you pick-up Redline SI-1 fuel injector cleaner (about as effective as a Fuel Injection Service) about every or every other oil change.

Should do you.

 

I've had a tune up done at the dodge dealership for around $50 dollars. All they changed were the plugs and wires. They also did a diagnostic check. Anyone can do that.
