Still $2.749 tonight at the station down the street from me in downtown Memphis.

I remember a Clark station when I was in college, probably 1998 or '99, for a while had both 87 and 89 octane priced at .999 for a while. The other day when I got gas somewhere between Indianapolis and Memphis, another station had both grades priced at $2.849.

He he, good analogy. I also remember $0.87/gal gasolene on a regular basis (sometimes $0.79 here and there)... not just a one-day deal either. Back in the '80's, specifically 1986-1989, this was the mainstay price of gasolene. I wasn't quite old enough yet to fill up my own tank... but in retrospect, those days would be nice about now!

Myself, I have had a 35 mile trip one-way to go to work every day, usually mon-fri and lately, most Saturdays.

So now that I move 4 miles from work, gas hits $2.49 today around here... my luck.

... and keep in mind something else... gas is now on-par or better with where it was over a year ago in a lot of areas. And oil is dropping drastically on a daily basis. Bottom line, the more the world economy sucks, the more the price of refined gas will fall.

I anticipate $2 gas or better by or before Christmas. Yes I said it... but here't the kicker... the rest of the economy will suck. But hinting on what bone said, some of you young guys might not feel a direct effect, yet... if you are young, don't own a home, don't have a 401(k) and don't have other huge obligations like kids, etc... then the price of gas will help you out a lot the more it falls, based on the economy. For the rest of us... not so much.
