I have been having a really weird problem with my 2002 Dodge Neon SE. For no reason at all the horn goes off by itself. Sometimes it will just honk, other times it sounds like someone is leaning on the horn and I have to hit it to turn it off. Now about a year ago, my husband hit the stering wheel so hard (yeah...out of anger...at me...so ashamed) that the horn sounded and wouldn't stop. He actually dented in the top of the steering wheel, but managed to pop it back out and stop the horn. Until two days ago, I had never had a problem with the horn. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I mean, it happens when the car is off and just sitting. Nothing else has happened to the vehicle. Any suggestions?[&:]
Probably a loose wire in the steering wheel. Or when he bashed it something metal is setting close to the wires. I wouldn't know how to take off the steering wheel to check it out. But need to be careful because of the drivers airbag.
First off, try not to **** of your man. Second off, take that thing to the dealer and have them look behind the airbag cover on the steering wheel for frayed (crimped) wires & Send the bill to your husband , after seeing the bill maybe next time he will control himself.
Buy a Service manual and take the sterring wheel apart and look for loose wires or horn parts. If you don't have the experience, take it to the dealer.
You have a crazy piece called a clock spring and you also have a horn button. Probably a damaged horn button but possibly the clock spring. Dealer or good technician time.
