MTX fluid check? WHERE???
Since I dunno where to check the transmission fluid levels in my ride, I took it to the lube guys. They check and fill fluids for a living right? They can't find it, said they can only find the drain plug. They said the dealer would be able to check it for me.
So before I go to the stealership, can you guys tell me if there is a way I can check and fill my transmission fluid please?
Thanks!

Don't know about a neon but on my probe you pull the speedo gear out and it had a mark on the gear for fluid level. I'm sure someone else with a MTX can tell you for sure.
Answer: It's a small, 1" plug with a flat edge sticking out of the middle of it. Just grab a hold of the edge and pull it off (it just snaps in and out of the side of the tranny. It is located just barely above the driver-side output shaft where the CV/half-shaft/drive-shaft connects to the tranny... just barely above it, and about 2" towards the firewall. You literally have to put your hand above the CV shaft and around the top of it to "feel" for it... Ilooked for 40 minutes one time and tore half my car apart before I located it... you just can't really see it with the eye that easy at all.
Pull it off, and I think you should barely see fluid sitting just under the bottom of the hole on the inside (assuming you can get your head under the car). I wasn't sure, so I just drained the whole tranny and re-filled it with the correct amount tobe sure how much it really had in it.The MTXshould hold 2550 mLof fluid, but Chrysler claims anywhere from 2.4 to 2.7 quarts is acceptable. I used 2.6, and have had no problems... and remember use ONLY the Mopar ATF+4 stuff, no other brand, period!!!

A few years ago, I tried the Castrol Synthetic ATF+4 and it did bad... once winter came, my tranny made a lot of noise, and shifts seemed sluggish, etc etc. I changed it out with the Mopar stuff and it has done great since. There is no reason not to use the Mopar stuff, and everyone else swears that anything else is just bad bad bad.
