I'm pretty sure these are all the correct cam specs...

Stock 96-05 SOHC Camshaft:

Lift: 0.307", 0.276
Duration: @ .060" - 196* intake, 214* exhaust.

Magnum Camshaft:

Lift: .344" intake, .315" exhaust
Duration: @ .060" - 212* intake, 228* exhaust.

Crane 12 Camshaft:

Lift: .355" intake, .315" exhaust
Duration: (intake/exhaust). @ .050" - 204* (intake), 200* (exhaust)

Comp 200 Camshaft:

ift: .356" intake, .336" exhaust
Duration: Advertised - 256266* (intake/exhaust). @ .050" - 200* (intake), 206* (exhaust)

03neon, would you recommend the comp 400 cam for the magnum motor? its supposed to be made for it basically, from what ive read. did you replace valves, springs and all that good stuff when you put yours in?

I have debated the idea of bee-hive springs and larger stainless steel valve from mopar performance but would like to know what cam would be the best fit for a D.D. with some added pop in the cam. Sounds like the comp 200 would be a nice addition but the car is an ATX so would the low speed drivability be comprimised significantly. In other words I would like to still be able to drive in school zones.

I would assume the R/T cam can be thrown into a non-R/T head no problem... but what significant gains could really be seen? 5 hp or so? Has anyone here tried this with a non-RT motor and had significant results? I always have had the belief that compression was always the biggest key, i.e. deck-to-TDC difference between the non-R/T and the R/T motor... this same premise usually applies to every other NA motor you typically come across...

Anyway, any input on this?

On a Magnum head, no. On a stock Non-Mag head yes you do.

The 01 Magnum cam is technically the best as it has slightly better specs...i doubt anyone could tell the difference though...

Yes, I would definitely recommend the Comp 400 for a Magnum engine...it was the best engine mod I did to my Neon. The Comp 400 was designed for the Magnum engine and you do not have to replace the valves or valve springs.

Plenty of people have put a Mag cam into a non-Mag cylinder head with varying results...your going to see a gain of roughly 5-8HP throughout as the upgrade is similar to installing a Crane 12 or Comp 200. Its recommended that you replace the valve springs when going to a Mag cam or Crane/Comp cam as well. Stock Magnum springs should do the trick for any cam you would consider in a DD. As for the compression, that's not really a factor, as all 00-02 Neons had the same 9.8:1 compression ratio. Only the non-Mag Neon's from 03-05 had the lower 9.3:1 CR.
