For a good base for fresh paint to stick to, I would use a 400-grit. Especially since you are going close to the bumper, where more potential for flexing will be expected.

I usually use sandpaper and steel wool as a last-step "even-ing" method before I spray the new on, just my preferrence.
400 is ok - it does leave too many sand scratches - reason I like 600

steel wool? - I norm use a 3m scuff pad - the yellow ones - really good for clear coat prep

one trick is use - 600 paper, attach a scuff pad to the back - if you are using Hook it - makes a nice hand prepper....vs trying to grip the paper...

make sure to sand your primer first
dont be surprised it the base/clear - lifts or wrinkles - with the rattle can primer...
Good luck !!

^^ if he spot primed it, and is going to sand it just to make sure that it is smooth then the rattle can will be fine, as long as he sanded it out! i use rattle can primer alot to make sure that the surface is smooth, my trunk lid and front bumper fix i have used rattle cans befroe and has been fine... just make sure to sand it down first

Wait a few days at least in the hot sun... or maybe the better part of a week if the weather sucks.

Hey manny, do you think you can help me? No one around here has the paint code PBQ (Steel Blue) can you maybe paint a set of side view mirrors and I will buy them off of you or trade with my stock black ones? I want them to color match my car.
