5W-30 is actually the recommended weight unless you live in Arizona or something like something like dj said, then 10W-30 is okay. I used the 0W-30 because all-around I see the best gas milieage and overall performance from the motor.

And as far as a cold-start... my motor seems the quietest with the 0W-30 over the 5W-30. I should have clarified something earlier... I prefer the Mobil1 0W-30, but if I use the 5W-30, I have been using the Pennzoil Platinum lately... if Pennzoil made a 0W-30 in synthetic, I would probably try it, but they don't... most companies don't. Mobil1 has been making the 0W-30 syn for years, but it didn't come down in price and put in 5-qt jugs until recently (it used to be $6.50 a qt in the "specialty" oil section).

Well at cold start-up, you want your oil to be thin... you would be surprised how much thicker oil can be at 0 degrees, compared to 200... it is a HUGE difference.

Iowa...are you even serious about running mobil 1 15k miles? I ran mobil 1 full synthetic in my car after the first oil change for quite some time. But after doing oil change after oil change of mobil 1 the stuff came out like water every time and black in color. And I change my oil right around 3000 miles all the time. I do city driving, but it is not that bad as I don't work downtown and have to deal with the stop-go bullsh!t. I quit running mobil 1 for that reason. And neon, I have heard/read bad things about Royal Purple.....
