Default 2002 Neon Engine/EGR Valve

Thanks to some horrible flooding and getting pushed by traffic behind me I sucked water into my engine thus blowing out my block so I need to buy a new engine for my car.

My problem has been even the dealerships cannot tell me which engine to get....

Any place I call asks me if I need a engine with EGR valve or without. I looked through services manuals and looked online for pictures and looked up the actual EGR valve itself to see what it looks like but still cannot tell for certain if my car has said EGR valve or not.

Can anyone tell me for sure how to tell so I can get the correct one?

Been working on this for a couple of weeks now to no avail.

Well I found a gasket for a 02 Neon. Here is the link. See what letter your VIN has in it. You'll see what I mean. They have all the engines listed then its says "VIN C" etc, etc.

If that's the only hold-up, I would say just go with the one that has the EGR. You can always bypass it later if you don't need it. But if you want to know real specifics, throw your VIN # to the dealership and make them tell you exactly what motor was put in your car at the factory.

No 2nd Gen Neon has an EGR valve...well like the first few hundred MY 2000 Neon's did, but that's about it.

Sadly I called 8 different dealerships they told me they didn't even know what a EGR valve was even their "technicians".

First, I would say follow RT's lead...

Second... NO ONE HAS HEARD of an EGR valve? None of their technicians did? Total mindblow... someone is going to hell for this.

Thanks a lot for that 03neonRT it is so sad that so many dealers that I called could not answer that for me even given my VIN number and everything.

I did get an answer about 7:30pm yesterday though I was very shocked. I called Chrysler directly no dealership and told them all my problems with their dealerships and them not wanting to help me or just telling me they didn't know and couldn't help me. All I did was give them my last 8 numbers of my VIN and he said he would have to talk to one of their technicians I waited about 10 minutes on hold and he come back and told me he had to talk to some other techs that might know more than who he talked to so could he call me back. This was around 4:45pm the same time I posted this message and figured I would never get a call back. So it was a very nice surprise when they actually called back and told me that it didn't have an EGR Valve.

I got my "new" engine with 26,000 miles on it in the back of my truck now Now I just need a transmission.

So if anyone knows where I can get a 2002 4 speed automatic transmission ASAP new/used whatever is the cheapest let me know. I live in West Michigan by Grand Rapids will drive to wherever I need to within reason few hundred miles.

Don't you mean a 3-speed auto? I think the 4-spd didn't come out until 2003, didn't it?

the 4 speed is the only auto for the 2002-2005 neons. 00-01 had the mighty 3 speed
