Default 2001 Neon with Issues HELP!!!!!!

THIS IS AN OLDER POST OF PROBLEMS THAT ARE STILL NOT FOUND!

We have a sharp 2001 neon that has had some unresolved issues since we got it.

It will run rough at idle and really rough at idle with the ac on. with the ac on it is a challenge at the line without reving the engine above 2500 rpms. I got a P0601 and p1684 code. I know that one is for the PCM and the other is a battery disconnect in the last 50 starts. If I have to replace the PCM i would like to get a reprogrammed one that has a little more umph. I don't have any ideas where a good place is to get it. The dealer wants over $800 just for the pcm.

Another thing that I noticed while replacing the belts is with the o2 sensor. The top one (upstream?) is in place but the previous owner cut the wires off. I cannot find the connector that the sensor plugs into. I know that this is killing my mpg and might be related to the first problem.

Thanks so much for the help. With things being so slow and prices so high its hard to get this stuff done without going broke.

Nathan

o2 sensor plug is grayish in color - four wires - at the back of the head - - it is attached to a bracket at the back of the head - purchase a new o2 - plug it in to the connector -
I would start there - and look at all the normal tune up type items first

good god... why do people insist on cutting the o2 sensors out all the time... :-\ anyways you might have to order a new sensor and rewire it yourself... as for the PCM code..... i dont have time to check out what it actually stands for so ill check when i get back tonight or tomorrow morning...

get the 02 working correctly - double check the rear o2 too
make sure every thing else is in working order - plugs, wires, PCV - air intake - etc. before condeming the PCM

thanks all. I will try to find the O2 sensor connector and replace that first.

LOL Ummm i did this about 6 months ago and it didn't turn out like i planned. When i put the vacuum line in the can the car backfired and the intake raised up about a foot. Then, on the interstate, the throttle body's rubber boot split giving the car all the fresh air it could breath. FUN FUN FUN!

Now that I think about all of these problems, it might have been that the timing belt was off a tooth from the day that we bought it.
