If its not in bad shape I would start with around 180 grit, to avoid deeply scratching the plastic. Get it down to at least the primer with everything smooth before shooting color, then wet sand with 600, 1000 and then 1500. Shoot some clear and wet sand some more, Repeat clear and wet sanding till you are happy with the finish. Then buff it out with some 3M rubbing compound.

When i got mine it was the wrong colour. i scuffed it with 400 washed with soap water fully dried then primed. 600 the primer and wash. Then colour. Three coats, 800 wet sand after first coat, 800 wet after second, then 1500 wet after third. Then clear 2000 wet after first and second coat, then buff. remember just scuff, dont sand.
my 2cents. Take it too a small guy paint shop give him $40 and get it back next day.

um, no.......
If you like to use body filler or like to have those scratches come thru in your paint then use 180,200 or 400. If you want it done correctly then you'd have to use 600 grit sandpaper, yes it will take longer but you will get alot better results and this isn't just my word this comes from a very reputable collision texbook.
I have never seen nor heard of wetsanding paper below 500 grit.

start with 600 finish if you like with 1000 grit, but no higher.

600 is a decent looking paint job if you want a higher quality job you can go up to 1000 to get a really smooth looking surface. Anything above 1000 and your just waisting your time.
