Neon started skipping very bad!
Hello, and hope some one can help me out. I have a 2006 Neon with 54,000 miles and have had no problems with the engine but a couple of days ago while driving the cruise control kicked off and it started skipping very bad, often slowing to 20 mph. This continued with surges up to 55 mph and every where in between..I soon noticed the engine malfunction indicator light was on..steady not flashing...made it home and while in park it still skipped very bad..next morning it started fine and ran fine...no problems..took it to my mech and he checked for a code and came up with a p0339 I believe...but found no problem. I drove it the rest of the day and it worked fine..today after about a 150 mile drive it started again..same exact problem..any help would be appreciated..Thanks.

Hi,
Actually the last Neons made in September of '05 were sold as '2006 models.
Anyways..you'll want to change your plugs & wires, if you're due for an oil change
get that done as well. If your check engine light is on you can bring it to any
"Auto Zone" store and they will check it for free and let you know what code comes up.
Also you may have gotten some old gas mixed with new gas. when the tanker trucks fill the tanks at the gas stations, it mixes up all the crap at the bottom of the tanks which can cause problems if you fill up right afterwards. You might want to pick up a bottle of fuel injector cleaner and add it to your tank next time you fill up..it might help as well.
