2001 Neon Upgrade questions
Hello I'm new to the Forum and I have to say what I've read so far has been great reading and I have learned quite a bit in the month or so that I've been lurking in the shadows, absorbing knowledge from you guys. Now I have a few questions.
I have a 2001 Dodge Neon 4dr, automatic, 2.0 ltr SOHC with No mods. I want to change the No mods part.
I want to start off adding a Iceman CAI and a MPx Throttlebody. My questions are 1) with this setup will there be a loss of fuel efficency? 2)The MPx come in 60mm. Should I get the 60mm or would going with a smaller TB be better/easer to install.
I guess that is it for now.
I look forward to any input you guys can offer.
thanks
Big Ken

Hey Ken. Welcome to DF.
I used to have a 01 Neon so don't let the sig fool you. The CAI is a good idea. Just make sure it does get cold air from outside of the engine compartment. The stock air box is probably in the best place to get that air.
For the TB. You should check with fastmen, DF site sponsor, And see if they can give you some advice on the proper selection of the TB for your set-up. They even offer a DF member discount if I'm not mistaken. To get the most out of those intake side mods you might want to plan on a catback system in the future.
Good luck with your project.

Yeah, engine needs to be able to put that extra air to use. Don't worry about the TB until you've done some other modding. Cost to gain ratio isn't worth it unitl you've done some other mods, like, i'd look into porting your head, getting a header and full exhaust...at which point, a new TB will make a lot of sense. Granted, getting a larger TB WILL produce more power, but, it just is a better investment to do some other mods first, and THEN get an even larger TB to go along with it and produce even MORE power. You'll be happier in the long run that way
Might I also suggest simply busting out a dremel tool and port matching your TB yourself? Although, myself, I'm not sure if it is or isn't port matched on the SOHC in it's stock form, I know that many vehicles have TB outlets that are smaller than the intake's inlet, I'm sure someone else can confirm. It really is quite a simple process, if you're careful and have a steady hand. This would be an easy mod to do in an hour or so, if you're comfortable with it.
dont get a new trottle body it will throw ur cars intake flow and screw up performance
get a cai and cut the stcok manifold box on top where the hole is at and it is like a half circle
take out all the silencer
wires plugs iridium and magnecor 8 or 8.5
header obx or borla 2.25 cat back and straight mufflerout with like a magnaflow

He doesn't know what he is saying.
I disagree with you though. U wont loose power by putting an UPGRADED header on your car without getting a throttle body. That doesn't make sense.

putting a bigger trottle body is like putting 2.5 inch exhaust piping it is too big and there will be no backpressure
a bigger trottle body will let more air come in but the comprseeion is the same still unless ur heads were portand polished and u have highr
compression pistons then you would get a bigger trottle body and exhaust
