You could have simply overfilled with oil, Could be a bad valve seal, or a bad rod bearing. Then again, yes, could be your rings.

From what it sounds like, it only started after you put the intake on? Maybe oil is getting into the intake and causing it to burn it? Have you checked the entire intake system to see if there is any oil in it? CAI tube, Throttle Body...

That is a good idea, and yes it only started after the intake was installed. I'll pop it apart on the next day I have off. Just out of curiousity though, how could oil get in the intake?

Some people get it from where Dodge put the PCV valve. Oil can come straight out of the engine through it. The most common reason is blow-by. PCV is for vapors, not actual oil so the oil will go right through the PCV system into the intake (where the vapors go as it is of course the same line). If you are getting oil in there, you need an oil separator.

thats the funny thing about the 2nd gen neons. the more air that gets into the engine the pcm is going to adjust for more fuel to be given. its the whole air/fuel ratio thing. i think it sucks, but it is what it is. you can try and put your stock intake back on see if that will do anything thing, but i dont think it will. i also doubt that you have a valve stuck open and no you do not have to get your engine rebuilt, just save up and get your rings replaced and while the mechanic is right there you might as well get him to replace the valve stem seals and seats as well

Lol, might as well buy a top end kit at that point.
