Default Had transmission serviced today...Question about external cooler

Had it serviced today since I am a new owner. I also had them put an external cooler on. They put a 5x15 (I will measure to confirm later) with 16,000gvw (good I guess). Is this what you guys put on?

Thanks

Sounds like a good choice, they say an external cooler will double the life of a transmission by keeping it cooler.

Did the newer 2nd Gen (03-05) have a tranny cooler on them from Dodge? I have seen something similar to a cooler underneath my engine that is about 1" long or so and is basically just a bunch of metal fins. Perhaps this is an engine oil cooler and not a transmission cooler?

nah dodge never equipped tranny coolers in the neons. other than their normal setup. that metal thing your talking about with those fins on it, that has something to do with the a/c. i cant remember the name of it, but it runs in line with that system.

Condenser.
I did it because I had bad luck with transmissions and wife travels up and down a hill every day 6% grade I think.
Price:
Trans service - $105
Cooler (p&l) - $130

Ah, didn't think so. After I get my tranny fixed up, I will probably add a cooler to mine.

That's big for a neon frick. That 16k rating is for like a transport truck or large motorhome.

I put a 5" x 12" 12k on mine and the tranny never goes above 150 I think it is. And yes neons come with a tranny cooler already in it, its a single pass on the very bottom of the rad.

I think all cars/truck after a certain year go through the radiator. Most cars/trucks don't have a "external" cooler. But, do flow through the radiator though. Wife does travel up and down a 6% grade hill to work. So, in the summer when temps are 116* outside, that cooler will have earned its pay
