Can a later year model overdrive gear be dropped into a '00 auto tranny? I'd like better gas mileage, plus with no tach, I can still hear the engine is running high in 3rd at freeway speeds.

well, I was hoping for an answer to my question that has gone unanswered for 5 days, namely, can I put an overdrive from a later model Neon into my 3 speed '00?

 

I am not sure, if you do,I am pretty sure you would have to get an overdrive trans. I have a MTX so I don't know that much about ATX neons, but I don't think the neon comes with a 4 speed auto.

 

Ok, I asked because I have seen 03's advertised with 4 speed with overdrive for sale.

 

you'd need to get a new transmission and put that on there.

even with my shaky understanding of atx's, it seems impossible to 'drop in' a gear. everything's pretty much a solid mass in one, and even if you could, you'd have to modify the transmission's control module's programming...

the new neons have 4 speed autos, ***I THINK*** i'd look into getting that to hook up.
