Default SRT Exhaust Illegal?

So I bought a stock SRT exhaust (rear section) and slapped it on my SXT. Now without the muffler I'm setting off car alarms and I just feel like a total douche driving through residential areas late at night, lol. Question is, or shall I say, questions are; Is the exhaust this loud on the SRT's? If not, what's the dif? Is it legal on my SXT in CA(technically it's OEM)?

The stock SRT-4 exhaust has two resonators and one cat. There are no mufflers. Mine was loud, but unless I really got on it in a parking lot (which I never did), I never set off any car alarms.

Yeah, I used to have a 2003 SRT...I miss her sometimes. You are straight-piped and that's what's going on there. Like sarguy01 said, the 2 resonators quiet it down a bit. I had a Borla on mine with 1 resonator and it sounded mean! So technically, to answer your question, yes, you probably are illegal right now. It would depend on your local laws, but most places require a muffler/resonator (some don't enforce it, but it's on the books). In CA, I would say most definitely.

I turned my car on with the straight pipe and the SRT mid-section and the only difference was the resonators kept it from popping? Sounded the same other than that.

id say it is illegal, Cali is pretty strict on their emmisions and such.. i dont know much about the SRTs, they may have had different cats to muffle a little more..... but i would just be careful about cruising in 1st-3rd around cops

I highly doubt it's illegal. It is a factory part.

but it is a factory part on a vehicle that never came with it. isn't cali really strict on modifying cars?

I would say it is illegal. because you don't have a resonator or a muffler. you should have at least one of them to make it legal.
