New to Neon... Right car for me?
Hi everyone. In a nutshell I'm looking to purchase a reasonably priced car with decent MPGs and little potential reliability issues...
I have been around the block looking at cars (actually been looking on and off for a year now), and I keep finding myself staring at Neons.
The size seems perfect for me and I really like the way that it handles. Ultimately though I need a car that will be dependable.
The one I'm looking at is a 2005 SXT. What do you think?
***The latest one I found has 51,000 miles and comes with a limited warranty. I am hoping to talk the dealer down from $7000 to $6000***
THANKS!

6 or 7 sounds good for an 05 sxt.just make sure you beat it on a test drive so you know nothings wrong with it.theres endless reasons to get a neon but post some pics and keep us updated when you get one.
I just got a 2003 sxt with about the same mileage on it for $5300 last month. Mine's a stick though, so that probably made it a little cheaper. ironic since stick shift sxt's are hard to find.
unfortunately i was spoiled with a 2005 r/t before i got this one, my sxt feels like a lot less car than the r/t was, but it was much cheaper and gets better mileage.
I like neons. I'm very tall, and neons are actually very comfortable to sit in. they handle pretty nice, they get pretty good gas mileage, they are relatively sporty, nice features/ergonomics/etc. for some reason honda owners hate neons, but i've owned both and prefer a neon over a civic anyday. Plus they are pretty safe IMO. I've personally tested an 05 r/t in a 50mph head on collision, and all 4 doors opened without force. my knee hit the dash pretty hard, but with the leg room in most compact cars it would have been a lot worse than it was in the neon.

I own an '05 SXT Neon. It has been a great little car, has a 5 speed, AC, cruise, power front windows, power mirrors etc.
My only gripe is that I only get an average of 36mpg
I've only had one condition, I have a slight leak at the axle shaft on the drivers side and it will take 25 years to drain the tranny and just haven't gotten in to the dealer to fix under warranty.
The seats aren't too bad on long trips and the 5sp seems to be holding up well. It's no SRT but it can scoot if needed with some creative shifting.
The paint on mine is hard as nails so, getting the swirls out of the paint job is a challenge, but hanging on Meguiarsonline has cured me of it.
It's the Orange paint job.
We love it.
Bought it new in '06 for $9,499.
No regrets!

As the title states it depends on what other kind of cars you owned or drove. If you like it on the test drive and you like the look then its the right car for you.
I bought mine in 03 used with 22 or 26k on it, drove it stock for a while, then started to build it... i love the car, they r easy to work on, and tear down with limited tools....
good luck, i am 6 foot 6 inchs tall and i have room, they r a nice car, and decent power stock also
