Default reflashing or resetting the computer question

so i stated in another forum that i installed a cold air intake with a 60mm tb. i read online that to get the most of your mods you should reset your cars comp. i unplugged the neg battery cable for 30 min then ran car til it warmed up, is that how you do it. will my comp return to factory settings? should i buy a new one thats blank? i bought long tube headers and underdrive pulleys, so i want to get the most from all these mods, help me out please, any info and sites with such info will earn you a gold star.

i heard it will reprogram your cars comp for the mods you have done. like a cold air intake lets in more air than stock, so resetting that would let the comp know whats going on, hopefully adding some power

How reliable is your info? Have many people done this? If so how long exactly do I leave the negative cable off for?

I need to do this also because since I had my CAI installed my engine light is on. I had my battery disconnected for about 5-10 mins and that didnt work.

i found this on wiki answers, dont know if its true

Let car warm up to normal temp.
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery for 10 mins
or...
Pull the fuel pump fuse for 45 seconds.
Resetting your Ecu each time you add a mod will help make the most out of them.
let car idle (dont touch the gas at all) for 5 min then shut it off wait a few sec and restart and ur done now u can drive.
