If your head is stock and has not been milled, and you have stock pistons, there is no reason for pistons slap; save a timing issue. Reset the cam and crank to TDC. This should correct your issue. Also look into a mechnical tensioner for better timing belt control.

Have you had success doing this? Cause like we all know, ALOT of high mileage neons have a tick. Also what do you mean by "hed is stop", do you mean head is stock? Yes and yes, no mods.

Also I have heard about the tensioners going, or the belts stretching on neons, should this be addressed?

Of course. It really isn't that challenging. Now would be a good time to pull a spare 2G block from the yard, have it prepped, cleaned, new piston ringers, new bearings, and drop it in.

I think you guys are talking about what I'm having problems with on my car. When we drive and once the motor hits 22 to 2300 rpms its like you come up against the rev limiter and takes a dive unitl the rpms drop below 2000 then its fine. It idols fine and until you get the rpms up it runs great so does anyone have any idea on what the problem is. We've done the cam sensor, crank sensor, and put a used computer in it.

Why are you revving a sohc to the rev limit? The stock power band ends at about 6600 at best, mods depending. That does damage leading to what this thread is discussing.
