Default crank no start p0016

here's the problem. I replaced the timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, and plug wires on an sxt last week. the car ran great for about two days then just died it will crank but won't start. has a p0016 dtc (cam/crank pos correlation sensor A, bank 1). so I thought it jumped time for whatever reason. So i pulled the timing cover off but the cam/crank are still in time.

what now?

yeah it is timing related so it could be bad cam senser or like you said the belt jumped or broke. how many miles on the car?

100 some thousand miles on the car. it did NOT jump time or break the belt. I checked the belt and it is in the same position now as when I first put it on and it ran great when i first put it on.

Default bad sensor?

Check the connector on the Crank Sensor it may have gotten pulled loose as the engine was moved around during the belt replacement. Other than that it sounds like a bad sensor if you’re sure the belt is OK.
My understanding is that the engine will still run in limp mode if the cam sensor is bad but will not start in the case of a bad crank sensor.

replaced the crank pos sensor. the p0016 dtc cleared when the battery was disconnected. the car still won't start but now there are no codes.
is there a relearn process for this car?

There is a relearn process for every computer controlled car after you reset the computer: drive it. That would prove difficult for you since it still won't start though.

It has spark.
I pulled the fuel rail w/injectors off to make sure they were spraying fuel and also check the pattern of the spray, and boy does it spray fuel. it seems like it is dumping way too much fuel. what controls the amount of fuel on these cars? regulator, or is it all done with pulse width to the injector?

I put the fuel rail back on and took the fuel pump relay out. the car would run for a second until it ran out of pressure in the fuel rail. I did this a couple of times. which just solidifies my thinking that it is getting too much fuel.

Let me know what you think. And, thanks for the info so far.

How do your spark plugs look? they could be fouled. you may have spark at the plug with it out of the cylinder but under compression the plug may not be working properly.

Check the fuel pressure at the injector rail.
2000 model spec is 338 kPa ±34 kPa (49 psi ±5 psi.)
2001 model and newer 400 kPa ±34 kPa (58 psi ±5 psi.)

The amount of fuel is controlled by the PCM (pulses sent to the injectors) but is also related to fuel pressure.
The wider the pulse the more fuel injected, the higher the pressure the more fuel injected. Under normal pressures the PCM will, based on sensor inputs, adjust to provide the proper mixture.
