Default Starting problem?

When I go to start my car, it doesn't start. The radio works, windows roll down, it cycles through the system check, but instead of starting it just clicks once...
After many tries, it finally turns on. This is pretty annoying and embarrassing at times.

I had my battery checked, and it's still good... Spark plug wires? battery cables? My starter?

What could it be? Anyone have this issue?

Default Things to Check

Make sure all the battery and starter cables are clean and tight, could also be the Park switch on an ATX or the clutch switch on a MTX, ignition switch, starter relay, or the starter itself.

Thanks... It finally crapped out on me, had to pay 60 bucks on a tow....

It was indeed the starter. the tow guy tried for 30 mins knocking on it and banging on it, but nothing resulted.
New project, change starter.

Red face

Weird man my car is doing pretty much the same right now.
yesterday it wouldn't start..made no noise..I messed with the fuse box and tried to restart and it turned over with no prob.. can fuses be to blame?

I got a jump today-did nothing for me..gonna clean the connectors tomorrow!
when i try to start my car no clicking sound happens..if your starter clicks isn't that a sign of it being dead?

all my lights work..and when my car finally turns on it has no hesitation to start.

if you got any info send it over!

One of the major causes is loose and/or dirty corroded battery connections.
A starter will click and not start if:
1) The battery is dead and cannot provide sufficient current to the starter
2) loose and/or dirty corroded battery connections limiting the current to the starter.
3) Internal starter problems.

If there is no click it could still be one of the above problems or as previously listed the Park switch on an ATX or the clutch switch on a MTX, ignition switch, starter relay, or the starter itself.

Just because your accessories are working is no guaranty the battery connection can carry the current required for the starter. For example the average stock audio system uses less that 10 amps, stock headlights probably less that 30 amps, while a starter during cranking uses several hundred amps. Resistive connection of more than a few milliohms will total disable a starter.

Default responce to the no start problem

i had the same problem with my 2.0l 2002 neon. it would not start. after spending a hole day checking parts. we came up with the conclution. its the the chip in the key. the key fell and the chip broke. and that caused the car not to start. went to the dealer baught a new key, reprogramed and the car runs fine no problems.. hope this helps.

In the case of a damaged transponder key the engine will start once or twice and die within a few seconds. After that it will go into lock up and disable the starter until a properly programmed key is used.
