Question 04 Neon SE Magnum R/T intake swap??

hey guys I have an 04 Neon SE with a few bolt on engine mods. I was wondering if I can bolt on the Neon Magnum R/T intake manifold on my engine because i have a 60 mm TB from Modern Performance. I have heard that just because i have a bigger throttle body doesn't mean that the intake opening is 60 mm, its still 49mm. Well i was just wondering if I could swap them over and what I need with the intake to propely install it. Any info would help, thanks

It wouldn't give you power. There is the potential to free some up due to increased airflow. However, on a stock car, I don't see the point in the upgrade.

Darthroush is correct. Airflow mods increase power be freeing up constriced air flow passages, via larger tb, ported intake, ported cylinder head, header, or larger exhaust piping. Gains are more noticeable on 5sp cars, as they can take better advantage of gears.

On a stock car, the gain will not be as "profound." The 2G magnum intake manifold has addition ports that open at a certain rpm to increase power, similar to a vtec system on a honda. Not quite as high in the rpms though. You will have wire up the butterfly system on your 2G, for it to work properly. Some mods I would seek are a 1G intake manifold. While most are plastic like the 2G, some are aluminum, and can be ported out to 60mm. I have one on my neon, but mine is a dohc. I just used the neck of the manifold, as the dohc intake is rather small. An udp is also a great modification to get you going.

You would get more from going mtx than using this, or any other intake manifold. Not sure it would work properly either, as it is designed for an mtx car. Butterflies open at a preset rpm via the pcm or piggy-back system.

similar to vtec? LOL not even close...

Not only will the performance be noticeable, there is no reason to add extra weight to the car if you are trying to go faster.

Very close actually. In fact, the butterflies in the aforementioned intake manifold can be controlled by a vtec controller. Granted this is an intake manifold, and vtec (or similar systems) use camshafts, but the desired effect is the same. I never said the gains would not be noticeable. I did say that converting to mtx yields higher gains over any intake manifold. Many have seen over a full second drop in 1/4 mile times. No intake manifold will accomplish this.

About the adding weight, what do you mean? An atx is much heavier than a mtx.

i was talking about the intake manifold being heavier. I was speaking nothing about transmissions.

secondary intake runners and secondary cam lobe have nothing to do with each other than the fact that each allow more air. Besides that similarity they work in two totally different ways and have nothing in common. A vtec controller is nothing but a fancy RPM switch.
