14" steel wheel valvestem location
Ok, picked up a pair of 14" steel wheels at pick-n-pull to mount snows on for winter. When I put them on, the valve stem is in a different location in relation to lug holes. Original wheels it is between lug holes, replacements have it lined up with a lug hole. This is not a big problem until you put on the hubcap and it covers up the valve stem. Of course the lug nuts hold the hubcap on, so checking tire pressures in winter will be a real PITA, not to mention if it is low and you need to air it up on the road. Mine is a 2003 and I pulled them from an earlier 2nd gen neon I think. Did they change this at some point? Like when they changed hubcap style? Just thought this was odd and never thought to check this when I yanked them.

I was planning on running them because the steel wheels are uuuugly. They are on right now, but I am planning on getting some that don't cover the valve stem even if they don't match. I have the same hubcaps as darthroush. I hate hubcaps too, this is the only vehicle I own with them. I have a set of the 15" crab wheels from my old Turbo Shadow but don't want to run them in the winter. I haven't run them in the winter in the 20 years I've had them because 205/50R15 speed rated tires are not the best idea for the snow. Had them on last summer until the 15 year old tires gave up. It looked kinda different, the silver center matched the silver paint on the car.
Just don't let the tire shop guys take 'em off or put them on. The one time they did, they cracked one without telling me and it flew off. Been rolling on flat black steelies for months now. I guess the trade off is I smoked my taillights a bit. Just need to find centercaps still for the set of Snowflakes I got so I can get them powdercoated!
