Default False claim on a catback auction?

Alright, so I found a catback on ebay, and the selling store claims that it can give a gain of 17-30 horsepower. Now, most catbacks I see only claim up to 15 hp, so I'm wondering if this is a hoax, or what. Is such a gain possible out of an exhaust? As a bit of extra detail about this particular exhaust, it's 2.25" tubing, 4.5" tip, looks straight-piped. Y'know, just in case that has any sway on the results.

Stock is 2.25" so about the only thing it is going to change is the sound and look of the exhaust. It will NOT give a gain of 17-30 hp. You would be lucky to see that kind of gain if your car was turbocharged. Realistically if you bought an upgraded exhaust you might see a gain of more like 5 hp.

2.25" tubing over 2.25" stock? you will have a 0whp gain just a louder exhaust and most likely loud and not deep sounding and probably illegal

Hell, I don't believe 15HP on any car just by bolting up new mufflers. Maybe and entire system...

I was saying he might see 5hp if he UPGRADED his exhaust as in 2.5in exhaust or free flowing cat, etc. If it is the exact same as stock then yes, you would be correct with the no gain statement.

exhaust tips do not improve horsepower; however, the right stickers do!!!
