2002 Neon Motor Mount Issue
I tried to change the motor mounts last Saturday and the Haynes manual skipped over a few steps for the right motor mount
Anyways I have looked over a lot of forums and searched with Google and I can not find any really good tutorials or information on this right engine motor mount. Maybe people do not care about doing these themselves due to the complexity...
Well the problem is that there is not enough room to get the motor mount out. It is stuck between the engine and the frame.
The only way I see getting it out is taking off this huge medal piece that I have no clue what purpose it serves along with the belts and I believe the power steering pump is connected to this piece and possibly the timing belt cover to have more clearance to get the motor mount out.
Has anyone change this motor mount before? (Other names for it could be mid engine mount or pivot mount)
I can tell that a lot of noise is coming from this mid engine mount location and the mount is completely gone so it does need to be changed.
2002 Neon ES 2.0 liter engine if that helps.
Thank you,
smgtech.

To change the pivot mount, you'll have to go through the steps for changing the timing belt. It's a PITA, and you might as well do the timing belt and water pump if you are close if you are going that far.
So I pretty much have to follow the haynes manual to change the Timing Belt and while I got everything off I will have to go ahead and swap out the pivot mount.
Are there any tip and hints that others can give me to remember when changing the timing belt and waterpump? Just incase the Haynes manual skips those too...
Also, what is the mandatory interval that you are suposed to change the timing belt?
You know the car acording to kbb doesnt seem worth that much money to put all this money into it.
Thanks,
Steven.

I haven't done that yet, so I don't have specifics. However, the interval is 100,000 miles and you can find kits for ~$100. If your belt breaks, you are pretty much looking at bent valves. I guess it'd come down to if you want to spend $100 to keep the car going, or go out and spend a few thousand on another. It's not even really putting "all that much money into it," it's just a part of basic maintenance once every 100,000 miles.
