valve body/Shift Linkage Shaft issue..
Ok so i was doing the solenoid for the 2073 code and that is done, but now i have a problem with the shaft that pole comes up thru the trans housing thats connected to the valve body. it seems i may have stretched it.. or extended it when i was trying to push the linkage pole thats connected to the valve body down. And i cant get it to go back down and seat properly....so i can attach the linkage cable etc.. here is a picture
i can get the pole back thru, but i just cant get it down..to sit properly, you can see its abotu a half inch gap that needs to be closed.... did i mess it up? Can it go back together?" do i need to pull it apart and put it back together?"

If you look at the picture, you can see the exposed metal, that im referring to. It is supposed to be flush against the trans case.. and the shaft is supposed to sit higher, so i can put the kickdown cable, and pieces for that on, to lock it and bolt it in place. but it seems like i may have pulled it apart from the bottm half.. that sits right on top of the valve body, when i was trying toget the shaft to drop.. so i can get to the solenoid. I am able to get the kickdown cable over it and tighten it down... but id rather put it back correctly if its possible, to save headache later. . but if i am unable to do so, ill move on and deal with it.
I put it halfway back together with the kickdown cable attached to the small piece exposed, and the gap still there. And it goes into gears fine, except from R to D it takes a bit of force.. but all others are fine. Any suggestions or direction would be very helpful, or even a name for these parts...lol i can provide more pics.. but i threw in the towel for the day...
thanks in advance..
