Default Check Engine Light comes on and cruise control quits working???

Hi all, my hunch is that someone has run into a similar problem...

Once every couple of week my check engine light spontaneously comes one and at the same time the cruise control turns off. Not only does the cruise control stop maintaining the cars speed, but the light on the dash turns off and when I press the button to turn on the cruise option, cruise doesn't become available. (Hard to explain difference, I hope you understand???)

Within the next couple of trips the check engine light goes off and the cruise works normally...until it starts again a few weeks later.

I have not had the code read yet, but was told yesterday that the codes are stored so it can be checked even if the light isn't on at the moment. I'll update once I have a code.

Any ideas: electrical, computer, fuse?

Thanks a lot for the ideas.
Micah

The code that comes up is P0340. Please advise if you have any ideas.

Thanks,
Micah

Thanks for the link! I'll try removing and cleaning the cam sensor first (there's definitely some oil/dirt build up on the outside).

Since the cruise control is affected at the same time as the check engine light turns on, I wonder if wires grounding or electrical connectors may be to blame? I don't have much experience trouble shooting electrical problems, so finding the source seems a daunting task to me.

Let me know if anyone has other ideas.

Thanks again,
Micah
