Default How to attach remote starter to solenoid

Car: 2003 Neon 2.0
I bought a simple Actron Remote Starter to crank the engine while doing compression tests etc. but cant quite figure out how to connect it. I tried one lead on the nut attached to the main battery cable on the solenoid and the other on the center post of the solenoid but that only made a spinning sound but did not engage the starter.

If it's a stick the clutch not be deoressed is the likely culprit.

I thought the keys were in but I'm not sure. I'll try that today. It does start and run normally.
