Spark Plug Torque
Hello everyone,
I just purchased some Bosch 4+ Plat plugs and was wondering how much I should torque those plugs in trying to take the guessing game out of it. Would anyone happen to have a clue? I did some research online and did not come up with anything of use.
Thanks!

i usually just tighten mine until they start to get snug.. being careful not to strip out the head of course.
aww that sucks that you got the plat +4s.. theyve been dyno proven to show a loss of power in our cars, not to mention that the plugs eat away at themselves due to the design of the neon's ignition system.
sure you can run em for a while, but youd be better off with a set of NGK V-powers.

Most plugs come with an easy to use guide on the box such as Champion with gasket TIGHTEN 1/2 turn.
This means thread the unit all the way down by hand until it stops. Make sure it is all the way down not just dirty threads. Then with a wrench tighten 1/2 turn. This gives you feel for how tight your plugs need to be.
This is also important torealise this is with a new plug. Not a previously installed one. This is why you ned to pay attention to how tight 1/2 turn was. Do not add torque thinking if a little is good a lot is better. Or you will like paying alot for a new head.
Some due to gasket design may be only a 1/4 turn. Just read the box.

Best of luck.

thats weird that you say that. i put the plat +4's in mine and im haven't had any problems with them. and im getting better gas mileage and more power.

theyll be fine for a little while, but they deteriorate in the neon MUCH faster than regular copper plugs.
it mainly has to do with the way the neons ignition system is set up.
for further proof of this.. id suggest searching neons.org's forums for threads related to the platinum plugs and why they are bad.
I wouldnt go with the ngks they were to big for my sxt I went back to stock ones until I cam find better ones.

Get rid of those plats and go back to coppers. Either NGKs or Champions. They've both been said to give the same performance (not that plugs really make that much of a noticable difference), but Champions have been said to run longer. I'm running NGKs in my Neon right now.
