Default SRT Exhaust

Okay, I found an NSRT 4 exhaust and I'm in the process of installing it. However, I was told by my brother that this exhaust would in fact reduce my gas mileage, could hurt the engine in some way, and I would actually lose HP. Is this true?

I thought I would ask some fellow Neon owners before I made a decision.

Well never hurt my gas mileage or hurt my engine or did my 04 sxt lose any hp. I now have a srt borla on my sxt and same goes for that one.

So does that mean "backpressure" is a myth?

No, it's not a myth. The engine needs a certain amount of back pressure to run best, but nothing that is going to cause a problem in the case of bolting on an SRT4 cat-back exhaust system.

That's what I was thinking of doing to my sxt and run a resonator with it at the same time.

Me too. I found someone to give me their stocker SRT exhaust so if it's too loud or it pops, I'll just buy either a Cherry Bomb or a Magnaflow resonator and put that on the stock Neon midpipe.

I had to get a 32inch glasspack to tame the sound down due to getting 3 fix it tickets for having too loud of exhaust all for the srt stock exhaust and I 1st put the stock resonator on and still really loud so you might want to get a glasspack maybe thats what help the back pressure on mine seeing I have it on my borla now.

It will pop if you downshift.
