Default crankshaft position sensor

DO any of you have a wiring diagram or know the functions of each of the three wires? The way I'm looking at it is installed with the connector to the left. The engine is a '03 2.0 SOHC. the sensor is located below the starter. Thanks

Thanks I was hoping you would be the guy to answer as it seems you are very knowledgeable on these cars. one more question, will it hurt the sensor if it gets fed Eight volts instead of five? The story is long as to why.

It signals off of 5 volts, any variation would mess up the PCM I'm sure.

The 5 volts is important as that is the "correct" voltage. The voltage should be coming from the computer though, and as the diagram shows, the other sensors should be getting 5 volts as well. Is there no way to connect into another 5 volt sensor wire so you get the correct volts?

Right, it the computer feeds both Cam and Crank sensors 5 volts and the CMP and CKP signals are based off the 5 volts as well. So if you fed 8 volts to the sensors then the PCM would see different signals coming back from the sensors.

The thing is, I will be feeding the crank sensor 8 volts as the engine is in a '95 neon. I made a tone ring that mimics the early engines and they use 8 volts versus 5 that is why I'm concerned. Thanks again.

Is there any kind of a converter you could use? I'm assuming the older engines used 8 volts then? No other 5 volt source?

Yes the older engines use 8 volts, I was thinking 3 more volts isn't a very big jump and the sensor may be able to handle the increase. The ignition wiring diagram I have for the older engines is identical to the one that you posted, voltage being the only difference. worst case scenario is I will have to machine a spacer to use the older sensor. Thank you again.

If it proves a problem, sounds like the spacer will be the way to go then!
