possibility of the heater core?

I hope it isn't, for your sake, but I went thru it.

Overheating... went thru 2 radiators, 2 thermostats..water pump and timing belt, then found out I needed a new heater core

Is a giant PITA to replace yourself and a BIG expense if someone does it for you.
whole dash and steering column have to come out to get to it

It is a big possibility it could be your head gasket. Just because theres no fluid in the oil dosent mean anything.

Can't you bypass the heater core?

Yes, you just won't have a heater.

I'm saying to see if it's the cause of the problem.
