Default AC stopped working...help diagnose?

2000 Dodge Neon, 5 speed.

My AC started blowing warm air, so I bought AC recharge kit complete with the pressure gauge and installed the freon. Immediatley after I started the car up and the AC was blowing cold. Unfortunately it was also making a relatively loud whirring/humming sound from the compressor area. I drove the car for a bit thinking it'd stop and it did, complete with a burning ozone smell.

Car is otherwise fine, blowing fan works but no cold air when I turn to AC and no compressor noise. I thought it might be the clutch from what someone told me but I'm open to ideas and how mch it'll cost to fix?

wow, you have a neon and a minivan with problems. time to look into a different car manufacturer...lol

it'll cost nothing to fix upwards more than the car is worth. It really bothers me that any Joe can go to wal-mart and buy freon then charge their a/c w/o any training and understanding of the dangers of dealing with the chemicals and pressures . the physical vehicle damage issues, personal health injuries and environmental issues have huge potential impact

it needs to be professionally diagnosed and repaired. you could have a bad expansion valve, or compressor. you must have the system evacuated properly before changing these parts

I agree. A/C systems and airbag systems are the two things I won't mess with. Either that, or try and find somewhere you can start reading up on the systems in cars and see if you can figure something out.
