Default Batt thermal wrap

Hey...how important is the thermal wrap on the battery. I replaced my batt with an optima yellow top (I know it's prob overkill, but it was free) and the thermal wrap doesnt really cover the who thing. Will my battery explode? Thanks.

Did it have a sensor attached to it?

no, there was no sensor... I got it to fit well anyway by taking the batt out and putting it on first...I was just trying to jam it on after. I've never replaced a battery before and was all worried. I'm new to cars in general and I'm trying all sorts of stuff and get all anxious about doing it perfect. but anyway...it's on there so thanks!

If the wrap doesn't have the sensor, then don't worry about it. It's not essential. Since you got it on though, there's some FYI for you, lol.

I just got a new diamond plated battery cover for my red optima and had to keep the thermal around mine seeing it has a sensor. Most of the older yrs dont have them probably just the 03-05 neons .

Not even all of the 03-05 Neon's have them. From what I've seen, there are more people that don't have that dumb sensor than those that do! Craziness I tell ya!

I have it, and I'm located pretty far from cold weather. It's a sensor the computer uses to determine the battery temperature and regulate the charge rate from the alternator. If it isn't hooked up, your battery won't charge properly. Some have gotten rid of the wrap, and somehow rigged the sensor up to be close to the battery.

no, mine actually has a heating element. there's a 110v plug tee'd into another plug into the block. it's listed as a cold weather package. the car came from far northern MN.
