Default Is this safe?

I'm hooking the cooling fan power wire to the "acc" on the 30a switch...the fan ground wire to the chassis...the switch power directly to the + battery through a 30a (??) fused wire...and the ground from the switch to the chassis. I will run it when the ac is on, or in traffic etc.

the fan IS fine...the relay is fine...the prob is the wiring and I can't find where. Is this a safe bypass, or will I die? (from it)

thanks

If you don't know where the wiring is, are you sure you won't be giving something power that shouldn't have it at the time?

It's not that I don't know "where the wiring is"...I'm just not going to replace all of it if I can just hook it up directly to the battery. I wouldn't be hooking it up TO anything but the battery. I just wondered if that size switch and a 30a fuse is enough. It doesn't come on at all so I figure it would be better to have it available in case I need it...and it doesn't really matter if the motor burns out because I have another fan sitting in the garage. I just want to know if anyone did this without using a relay, and if so weather or not their wires melted or their car caught on fire, since w/o a relay there's nothing regulating anything...or do I NEED a relay.

My point is, if you jump it and all of the wiring that is there is still hooked up, and it is hooked up to something it shouldn't be (why it isn't working perhaps), you will be giving that (whatever "that" may be) power too. Either way, you should use a relay in addition to the fuse. Really, you *should* use a relay in addition to a fuse when powering anything that will draw a fair amount of power, to be completely safe.

no, I get it...but that's why I'm doing it in the first place...I'm just bypassing everything and hooking it up directly to the battery instead of messing with any wires at all. I'm sure I'd short something otherwise which is where the not knowing what I'm doing comes in to play. If I just end up burning out the fan motor I don't really care, but I don't want to mess with the whole electrcal system for that reason. If it's hooked up to something it shouldn't be now, I'll just be disconnecting that connection. I guess my concern was the wires melting since it's just full power with no relay, but your right that I need a relay anyway. I'm just going to throw it all together this week and watch for smoke since I've got it in my head. (the idea, not smoke) (that's coming out)

here's another thing you can laugh at if you want...tell me if this looks normal. I was going to change the pos terminal so i have somewhere easy to connect my deadly fan wire to and it seems really micky moused to me. In my unskilled eyes it looks like the ignition wire (?) and wiper motor wire (??) are coming from the dash and are jenkily soldered on to the pos wire. also, what I think is the wiper motor wire's protective casing is melted.

anyway...attached are some pics for your amusement. tell me if that connection looks normal or not and if i should get a new terminal or not.

For my amusement huh? People sure are being a bit dramatic on here lately...

That's how the wires are on these cars. My battery has two wires going to it like that as well. I can't really tell what is going on in that last picture though. I don't recall having a wire right there on mine, but I also don't have a hood pin/switch either like you do.
