wierd running after cai install
hello everyone, i have a question. i just installed an iceman cai on my 02 neon sxt. everything installed correct and reset the computer. on first startup and drive, everything was good. i drove for about 1/2 hour and then started to notice that the engine rpm would "stick" around 1500 when the clutch was depressed. when i came to a stop, the idle would return to a rather high 1000 rpm. i checked that the throttle was not binding and no vacuum leaks also. is this the computer compensating the high rpm for the cooler air intake, and will it return to how it was before, after the computer adjusts? it used to idle around 700 with the clutch pressed. it feels like it is breathing better, but i don't like the stuck throttle feel.
update: the car will not run right. the idle revs up and down, and then will rev to red line. i have to shut the car off or the motor will rev at 6500rpm????????? i need help fast with this one?????? is there anyone who knows what can cause this, and how to fix?????? no check engine light. what is happening?
odds are you didn't hook some thing up right when u messed around near the throttle body. check all the cables and every thing to make sure its all connected right and nothing is to snuck that it would add preasure to the cable.
thanks for the reply. i'm 100% positive the cable is not binding and that all connectors are where they are susposed to be. i noticed that the engine was running slightly rich before the cai, now, seems like lean. no gas like smell or carbon on the pipe tips. should i reset the cpu again?

ignore that there is a missing cap for the breather. it was installed after the picture was taken

it could be that because the car is getting more air delivered to the engine that I might not be getting enough fuel and the cpu is trying to compensate by reving the engine some... you can try resetting the cpu and see what happens...
im sure you keep up with regular maintenance and stuff so it prolly isn't that... right ? lol

yes, regular maintenance is kept up with. this just started today. i installed the intake on friday, and the car drove fine. i started it up saturday and that's when i noticed the idle higher than normal when the engine was warm. it used to idle 700-800 then on sat it went to 1000-1100. today, i reset the cpu to try and remedy the high idle. that's when the engine went haywire on me. i know it has to be related to the cai, but why the cpu won't relearn?
and to add insult to injury, i was adding e.s. front swaybar bushings to the car and i had 2 bolts snap[:@] i spent 3 hours drilling and tapping upside down. srt-4 24mm bar on front, 17mm srt rear bar when i upgrade the rear struts.

The cai should cause that problem i think... i got an intake on my car and its fine.. the only thiing i could think of is when you put in on you prolly never took the throttle body off and cleaned it.. if you did then there is some thing else wrong that im not thinking of.
but try this if you haven't already... buy a new gasket for the throttle body and a can of cleaner at the store.... take the throttle body off and clean it very good and let it dry before you put it back on. also clean the Idle control valve. if that gets dirty it can cause the car to idle weird. mine has that problem which i need to fix once it stops raining. mine idle low when i first start it and gets close to stalling out some times... now if that don't work we will have to elminate some more problems..
let me know what happens.

well, i found my problem. the small plastic pipe from the intake to the tb had collapsed at one end, creating a massive vacuum leak. and just as i suspected, it was running lean. i put the stock bellows tube back on for now. she idles at 700 rpm in neutral and it drives very nice. thanks for all the input. i bet that the heat from the fan softened the plastic and the fact of me getting on the car while it was soft just pulled the end of the pipe inward. my next mod will be an automatic tb to increase the bore to 52mm vs 49mm for the manual trans.
