squeaky belt when it rains, whats up?
ok , so i have a 2003 dodge neon rt and at first this only happend when it rained and i ran thru a puddle. now i have heard it yesterdat when there was no rain. it sounds like a belt squeaking. any idea? timing belt? pully going bad? anyone with any ideas, and abuot how much it will cost to have someone put a new timing belt on the car?
How many miles are on the belts? Accessory belts wear over time and will squeal/squeak. They can do it completely out of the blue. Maybe it's the alternator belt and the tightness needs to be checked. If a belt is too loose, it can make noise.
To my knowledge, and guess, the timing belt won't squeak since it is a cogged belt.

The accessory belts you can do yourself in the driveway if you have any mechanical knowledge. On my 2000 Neon there is a tendency for the powersteering belt to do this. Look at the inside of the belts and check for cracks or a shiny surface. I mean the side of the belt that runs on the pulleys. If either of those conditions are present, I would change them.
