Its a 2000 neon stock everything. Well after I replaced my clutch cable (aftermarked) it started poping when I push down on the pedal. Pops in between "free play" make sense? Also my pedal is loose and its bending sideways now.ill post a video of it tomorrow morning.

Is there a little plastic piece on the top of the pedal that holds the cable in place. Is that piece tore-up?

Nope that piece broke along time ago and I had a brand new one put in. don't understand why they are plastic though. Also sometimes when the pedal returns I'll hear either the cable scratching the inside of the firewall or somethings grinding near the spring. all this noise happens within all free play of pedal. I'll post the video soon.

1. After market cable not fitting/to long?
2. bad bushings and return spring for pedal?

I know on Mustangs, aftermarket clutch cables are a big no-no. I'm not sure about Neons, but unless I hear different, I personally wouldn't rule it out.
