Default 2003 Dodge Neon problem

I have a 2003 Dodge Neon I bought used. It has about 130k right now. My wife let her brother borrow it. As he was coming home he stopped to drop a friend off and when he went to leave he started it and put it in reverse and it wouldn't do anything. Drive, 1st and 2nd and 3rd did the same thing. Will not move at all. Makes a slight whining noise when in reverse if you hit the gas. When you hit the gas the RPMs go up to about 2k and stop. Is my trans blown? Any ideas? I checked the fluid before he borrowed it and it was full. Checked it when we went to look at it at his friends house and it had not changed. I'd not noticed anything going on with it before. Thanks.

At that mileage, was the timing belt ever changed?

(same guy but it wouldn't let me log in through facebook this time for some reason)

It starts and runs fine though. It wouldn't start if it was the timing belt.

It could if the belt jumped because it was worn...which would also cause it to run like crap. Are there any codes (the CEL does not need to be on to have codes stored)?

I wasn't saying the engine didn't run fine. I was responding to what you said about the car not starting (at all I have to imagine) if it was the timing belt.
