Hi there, new to the forums. I have a 2002 Neon (MT) and today the dashboard lights and needles have all started flickering off and on... the needles on the dashboard have gone squirrely (up and down randomly) and the lights flicker off and on. Car still runs fine for the most part. We rebuilt the engine recently (blown spark plug threads), although I doubt this is related.

Any thoughts to what this could be? Car has roughly 170km on it. Alternator/PCM have never been replaced.

Alternator you should look into replacing sounds like what happened to my sxt replace it and than go from there should fix your problem.

 

My needles and lights did that, amongst other things, and it was a bad battery. I replaced the alternator believing that was the problem. Had nothing to do with it. Have your battery, and alternator just to make sure, tested. The PCM in a car should never have to be replaced unless there is some sort of malfunction with it.

 

Mine would shut off riding down the road did some trouble shooting and replaced the battery cable ends, changed the positive wire going to the under hood fuse box from one wire to 2 8 gauge wires and added another body ground. Haven't had any more elecrical problems since.

 

Mine started shutting off too along with the transmission downshifting itself to 1st or 2nd at highway speeds...
