Default transmission problem

I have a 2004 Neon SXT auto. I did a transmission filter and gasket change. Everthing was good shifting and all. Then all of a sudden it threw a code and it wouldn't shift out of first gear. The code p1776, p0700. Don't know if it is something I did or something got caught up in the transmission. Thank you in advance for your help

How long had it been since a fluid and filter change? The solenoid pack can get clogged. Since everything was working fine, I'd lean towards something like that over wiring becoming frayed, an internal transmission problem or a bad PCM.

hmmm, what could possibly get caught up in there? you had all your tools after the repair? any extra bolts? did you get out the old filters seal?
filter sat right before you put pan on(or was it cockeyed or different position?)?
What fluid did you use?

have it scanned with a scanner that can retieve the trans codes and post back.

Well, I didn't leave any tools in the pan and I got the fliter put back in straight. Don't know much about the car other than I just bought it and it has a 160,000 on it and I would say that it has never been changed it had silicone in the place of the gasket. The code is a p1776 and a p0700. I have seen on some other post that the p0700 is a common trans code and the p1776 is a shift soleniod. That tells me that it is stuck in 1st gear. Everthing was going great until all of a sudden the check engine light was on and wouldn't shift out of 1st gear. I used the atf 4 fluid

I would change the shift solenoid thats what I had changed and the wiring to the tranny and mine has 193,000 miles on her now. Checkin the wiring and changing the solenoid should work.
