Default 2.0 mods?

Looking for some mods for the engine that arent to expensive or require a ridiculous amount of labor. Gonna do the exhuast pretty soon with pacesetter headers. Other than that I've never really paed much attention to neons but now with my other car out of commision I guess I'm gonna start modding the neon now.

Think of your motor as a giant air pump. If you are pumping air, the first thing you need to do is increase the amount of air you bring in, not take out. Get an air intake first, before you touch the exhaust. Next, to increase the performance of the pump itself, you can mess with your combustion to get the pump flowing better. Swap the stock coil for an MSD, get some performance sparkplugs and wires. Then maybe mess with the exhaust. Just my 0.2 cents but some people really want to make the exhaust loud without really going any faster than normal. All these mods together are not really going to increase your HP by any considerable amount either. I would save up my money and get the Hahn Racecraft turbo kit. 8-10 lbs of boost on stock motor with no mods good for around 200 HP. Boost adjustable to around 20 lbs with engine internals modded.

Well I have gotten every goodie for engine mods but megasquirt or turbo or nitrous. I have an intake with k&n filter, underpulled cam gear, port and polish head adjustable cam timing gear, comp 400 cam, 60mm tb and indy intake manifold . Probably have forgotten some stuff. I want to add a turbo next .

I own a 04 Neon SXT and swapped it with SRT4 parts, such as suspension, rear sway bars and mostly stock still. Only thing I did was changed out the stock muffler with a 31" cherry bomb and added the dual srt4 tip at the rear section. It's gotten alot of power and I know it's more than what a stock has. But I'll be adding a better air intake soon.
My hats off to "inthewerks", for the infos. Thank you and it does make me think of the ways to approach horse gains.

be carefull how much boost u put to those stock piston/wrist pin as they aren't the strongest and can Just barely handle the stock power the 2.0L makes

You can get some piston pins that are stonger than the stock ones that can way handle the power that more mods can handle with the 2.0 and turbo also.

i actually dont want want the exhuast to be loud at all id much rather it be a deeper exhuast note, as far as the plugs, wires, coil pack, and intake those will happen definately but i am not gonna turbo this engine maybe one day down the road itll get an srt swap but thatll probably be a bit

Im a gal and the best sounding exhaust in my op and not so pricey is magnaflow dual and its not at all loud it is pretty deep like your lookin for . I started out with little engine mods and now have everything I need until I go turbo if I do . I may just be happy with all the engine goodies with 150hp Im pretty ok with that.
