my new neon and its problems! HELP!
So i bought a 2001 neon se with the standard 2.0 and 125xxx miles on it. the other day.It has a chugging feelign to it when at idle. the cel light was on and i got a code for a misfire in cylinder 3 (figured it explained the chug)and a P1486 evap line pinched. I changed the plugs and wires and the code hasnt came back but i still have a "chugging" feeling when idling either in park or in gear. anything else i should try?
And as for the Evap line pinched, could someone please shed some more light on this code for me and possible causes.
The fuel gauge also has a problem. If i start if up for the first time of the day my gas gauge reads accurate. As the vehicle is running it drops quickly, (like from a full at accurate start reading to empty in 5 to 10 minutes) and then it reads empty until the car hasnt been running for 2-3 hours and then when restarted it reads accurate again? what would cause this?thanks in advance

Being a 2001, look at the hoses connected to the carbon canister and leak detection pump (LDP) for any cracks, looseness and the PCV line in the engine bay. An EVAP problem can potentially cause vacuum problems, which will cause poor/erratic engine performance.
For the fuel gauge, have you tried running fuel system cleaner?

the gas situation sounds like you need a need float. my truck did the same thing and thats all it was. but with the chugging i would check your injectors, you could have a clogged injector or pump is going out. and i have no idea what a evap line is lol

Okay! well Im new to the neon and its set ups, can anyone either point me in the direction (or maybe even post a visual aid) of where this carbon canister is, as well as where to look for the PVC line in the engine bay. I have been told where the LDP is now located. Thanks for the help in advance!
so the ldp is behind the tire and the carbon canister is in front of the rear passenger side tire. What about the pvc line?

alrighty, well i went ahead and changed injectors (got a set of four on ebay for a reasonable price) I started it up after changing them and it still runs the same... do i need to reset the computer first (leaving the battery unhooked for a while) so the car can relearn itself before i will notice an improvement if this was my dreaded cylinder 3 misfire (changed plugs, wires are relatively new and now injectors.. came back after plug change and now waiting for it to return or not after injector change) And i traced all the evap lines i could find none look loose, cracked, broke, and as for the pcv valve line, there is two vacuum hoses that come off the valve cover one on the rear and one on the drivers side of the intake, both of these seem fine too. I cant hear any vacuum leaks. Any other ideas? the only code i've gotten since i bought the car is the cylinder 3 misfire (p0303 i think) (the evap line pinched code hasnt came back in 600 miles or so)
alright, well the p1486 code is now back after 10k miles or so, nothing has been changed and it all still looks the same. none of the hoses are broke, cracks, pinched or loose. any other ideas? Also is there a way to get rid of the 1684 battery disconnected code? even when i cleared the codes with a code reader, its still there.
Now this is my next question, earlier today i checked teh codes (the cel has been on due to a p0456 code. i checked a few days ago and had the p1486, p1684, and the p0456 codes, when i checked today i had just the p0456, and now when i got home i had all 3 again. Could i be having computer issues or is it normal for some of these codes to come on and off?
