Damn, I grabbed my camera but forgot the usb cable. I'll post the pics in the morning when I get home if I remember. I'd really like to get some opinions on it before I go wrench it off.

Ok, here's the muffler I was thinking about grabbing...opinions please

I know it's not pretty right now, but I'll change that if I get it. I'm just looking for something higher flowing than the 2nd gen SOHC stock.

The same can be applied to any car really. If your exhaust can flow more than your intake can pull in, any upgrade in the exhaust won't benefit the car in any way. Kind of like putting a CAI on a Neon, since the factory intake already pulls in more air than the engine itself needs (unless of course, you start upgrading the engine with parts that will "use" more air).

I personally don't know if you can simply bolt-on a 1gn exhaust to a 2gn. If you can, and it doesn't cost that much to actually buy it (consider the admission price of the JY too if they have one) and have it cleaned, I guess. That is still a factory muffler, which means there are still plenty more that will offer better flow. Going back to your other post, just because your engine doesn't have the mods to really "use" a high flowing exhaust doesn't mean you need to get something in between stock and that "higher" end he is talking about. You can put a Flowmaster 40 or 50 (personal preference) or a Camaro Magnaflow muffler on there (look on Craigslist). Another option is a Vibrant Performance StreetPower muffler. A friend has that on his and it sounds great. It's going to come down to how much money you want to spend and what kind of sound you want. Most any aftermarket performance muffler is going to flow all you need and then some.

Thanks for chiming in darth. The flowmaster 40 is priced better than I thought it would be. I think tomorrow I'll call the jy and ask them how much they'd want for the DOHC, get an approximate price from a machine shop for the cleaning, figure out the gas it would take me to get to those places and back, and if it has to be welded, how much my buddy would charge me to weld it. I'm thinkin with everything considered, the flowmaster 40 may be a better bet. This is why I'm hesitant to do any kind of performance mod i'm not 100% about until I hear from darth
I'll update tomorrow when I get this all figured out.

Wow, thanks for posting those vids darth. I really liked the sound of that Flowmaster 40. If I don't go with the DOHC, that's the one I'm going to get.

Go with the flowmaster. I have one on my r/t. I have it tapering back from the exhaust manifold and then the tips are 3". It sounds amazing. A flowmaster on a neon is the way to go.

Yeah go with the flowmaster its alright sounding on a neon but nothing like my borla now that thing is mean sounding. Flowmaster would be much better than that old beat up muffler by far.
