Default lights don't come on when i break! help!

about a week ago i had found out that my break lights were not coming on so i changed the bulbs but that didn't work. checked the fuse, that was fine. checked the switch for when you hit the breaks, that's fine. has anyone had a similar problem like this? i have literally tried everything except ripping my car apart to look at the wiring.

oh and two days ago, they randomly started working, then decided to stop working again.

any ideas or help would be nice, i'm trying to avoid a mechanic unless necessary.

edit: sorry forgot to add the car is a 2003 neon sxt

I don't think the MFS has any ties to the brake lights.

ya it doesent , all bad , all bad. are you sure the brake light switch checks out ok? how did u check it? normaly you would first make sure its adjusted correctly to the brake pedal and then find the power wire on the switch and make sure you have power going to the lights from the switch with the switch activated . i would start there cause it sounds like an intermitent switch issue and they do fail , simple test light and 2 min of time will tell you alot. I am a mechanic by the way and id be glad to answer questions you might have.

I agree to recheck the switch.

umm, Hate to dissagree (although I havent had a MFS cause this proplem before)

I folow the wiring down the right side of pic, the CHMSL is the only stoplamp NOT wired through the MFS according to the WD

Am I reading the flow of current wrong?

The OP says the pedal switch is good so I'm looking down the line further, and i see MFS after Pedal Switch and before bulbs.

Wouldn't the 3rd brake light work then?
The OP has never confirmed that it is properly adjusted and has power going to it. Not saying they did this, but a lot of people simply look at something, and say, "hey, it looks good!"

I agree the CHMSL should still work as its independant, but whos to say the bulbs arent burned out in it???

I think we need a bit more info from the OP like some results with a test light or DVOM

ok so we have come to the conclusion that the break switch wasn't the problem at all. funny thing is that i took it to a friends house and had her dad look at it who has worked on cars all his life, and he was dumbfounded.

long story short, we ended up checking all the fuses again and sure enough the breaks came on. went on a short ride, left the car with the breaks working and came back out to no more working breaks. so i had a hunch, i opened my hood and just started smacking my fuse box and bam they were on again and have been on ever since. now i know it's not a solution, the problem is still there but now it is more isolated.

is there anyway we can come to a conclusion on what wrong from that?
