We have a 2000 neon r/t 5 spd that we race at the local asphalt track. Its been popping out of third gear at various states of throttle.
When we had the problem the first time we thought it was just because we had killed the transmission(and we did). We then took a second transmission and put it in the car and we still have the problem with it popping out of third gear, even at full throttle.
Btw we pulled the second transmission apart after the first week of racing and it popping out of third and replaced all the syncros and it still popped out of gear. My dad said nothing else in there looked worn and that he didn't understand why it kept popping out of gear.
Our next step is to make some sort of gate to keep it from popping out of third, if anyone on here has any suggestions as to what the problem might be it would be greatly appreciated

New mounts, no bumps, tranny has been to a professional & back with no clue of what is happening. He races a 1995 Neon on a 1/3 mile asphalt oval. Pretty much starts jumping out(when everything gets warmed up) around lap 10 in the the corner. We have 5 people working on the issue in 2 different states. It shifts fine, no grinding, nothing is wore out, tried 2 different srt 4 transmissions they both do the same. Speculating that it may be one of the internal springs that can't hold under the extreme pressure of letting off and hammering back on the gas in and out of the corners.

no, we have decided to go with a transmission with a different ratio and possibly larger tires so that we can use second(seems like thats what the other neons aat our track do), but our track is shorter so we could do that. I only hit 65-70 if i wanted to use alot of brake going into the corner
on a different note, i have a feeling that if you keep running the transmission it eventually wont even want to stay in third gear...at all. thats what happened to the last transmission we pulled out
