Default 01 Neon starting issues

When the car is cold it starts fine, but when it gets hot and you shut the car off all it does is clicks or nothing at all. I have recently replaced starter, ignition switch and fuse and still the same problem. If you let the car sit for a while it will start. The battery and alt. was tested and was told they were good. Cables appear to be in good shape and their isn't any corrosion anywhere. What else could it be?

Power Distribution Center. It's the relay/fuse box in the engine bay.

You replaced the ignition switch. What else are you thinking under the dash? I'm thinking it's something in the engine bay ATM.

I was thinking like a loose wire or maybe something else that I don't know about. I did replace the neutral safety switch this morning and so far it's been starting but not 100% sure that was it.

A neutral safety switch simply prevents the engine from being started in any gear besides park or neutral...if working properly. It usually controls the reverse lights too.

  • If you turn the key to the "on" position when the car is hot, do you hear the fuel pump turn on?
  • Will the car crank over when it's hot?

The fuel pump kicks on every time, when the car wouldn't turn over in park or neutral while someone was trying to start it I wiggled the wires and it then would start in park and neutral.

Like I said..."if working properly." If that's the case, that probably would have been the problem if it wouldn't start when it should have.

You still have the problem where it won't start when hot though, yeah?
