Default 2000 Neon computer replace

I am having tons of issues as I have posted, this is a simple question, if I replace the computer on my Highline 2000, do I need a 2000 computer or will another year work, and yes I know it would only be a 01 or 02. Thanks for the help.

thanks, however I put one in from a 01 and it will not start. Do I need to reset anything, or should it be plug in and run? Still fighting my ASD relay issue and this is the next step.

Do you have a chipped (gray) key? Perhaps the computer was out of a car with a chipped key? If either of those are true, the computer is going to need to be reprogrammed before the car will start with it. If you have a chipped key, the new computer needs to be programmed to your keys. If the new computer had a chipped key attached to it, and you either don't have a chipped key or yours is not the chipped key that is programmed to the new computer (which it shouldn't be), the computer needs to be programmed.

The only way that I know of to avoid this is to make sure the computer was a non-Sentry system computer if you have the plain black key. Otherwise, programming is required.
