Recently got my 2005 SXT down from Tennessee. I kept hearing this sloshing sound,and finally narrowed it down to the right rear door. I thought what the h*ll. Then I remembered that the car had set outside for months while all these torrential rains happened in Tennessee. Any one ever had this problem? How do I fix this? The only thing I can think of is drilling a hole in the bottom of the door. Any ideas.

 

Taking off the door panel might be a better idea than drilling into the door which will eventually cause it to rust out. Check all the seals and replace any that are damaged/broken

 

Thanks for the advice! I have never taken the panel off (about 500 times with the Saabs) but never a neon. How hard is it? Will all the water drain out by removing the panel? It must have come in through the window swipers (though they look good). If any seals on the bottom were damaged/broken, it would have drained out, right? I've never taken off a door panel from one of these cars but it should be just like any other one. If the water is between the panel and the door then yes, it should all come out. If it is there I would let it air dry because there's probably sound proofing material in there.

 

There are drain holes in the bottom of the doors. If someone had the car rustproofed by a shady corner shop, or did it themselves, It may have plugged up the drain holes. Look/feel under the weatherstripping on the door bottoms, and find the drain holes. use a screwdriver, and poke up until they are cleared out.

I really haven't had the time to do it,because my wife won't stay out of it long enough. In 1995 she bought a new Plymouth Neon, which she absolutely loved. It had well over a 100,000 miles when my son totaled it. She never liked the Saabs that much. Too quirky and funny looking (she says). I figured it was cheaper to get another Neon rather than another wife.

 

Any solution to this? We had a few rain storms this week and my girlfriends 05 sxt flooded in the back. I'll be looking at it tomorrow to hopefully find the issue.

 

If it flooded in the back, it's most likely bad taillight seals. Be prepared to gut the interior of the car. Is the spare tire well filled with water?

 

You were correct. Thanks to you, easy fix. Since then the car has been outside in the rain, but no water accumulation. The car will spend most of it's life now in a garage.

 

Glad that it worked. I don't garage mine, and it has survived 245,000 miles and 7 years of outside in Wisconsin year round.
